A User's Guide to Environmental Insurance
The users guide is an introduction to managing environmental risks through various types of environmental insurance.
Environmental insurance can be a powerful tool in the overall environmental risk management process. The current environmental insurance market place has over one hundred different environmental insurance policies available for sale that have been tailored to specifically address various environmental risks. The market capacity for environmental insurance exceeds $400,000,000 in 2004 with written premiums in excess of $2.3 billion dollars.
In the users guide, sources of environmental risks and risk management strategies are presented along with a discussion of the basic working components of environmental insurance including the underwriting process.
Starting with the history of the development of environmental insurance in the 70’s to the modern versions of environmental impairment liability, pollution legal liability, contractors pollution liability, environmental professional errors and omissions liability insurance, asbestos and lead abatement contractors general liability insurance, environmental remediation insurance, remediation stop loss insurance, cost cap insurance, underground storage tank insurance and combined environmental insurance policy forms are all discussed.
